ian mackaye is a living ledgend and a person of integrity. some think, what would jesus do, for me, I think, what would ian do. though, I've never come close to living the mindful existence that mr. mackaye does, I do try here and there. ian is well thought out and you'd be smart to take a listen to what he has to say here.

interview with ian mackaye this was the day after election day and would mark 366 days on the road for the bugbee's. ian mackaye was a large inspiration for the d.i.y. scene if not the nucleus. mackaye started the band minor threat, fugazi and the record label discord records, when the bugbees chose washington D.C. as the end of their road trip, some assumed it was due to the white house, it was not, it was to talk to one of their largest political inspiration, ian mackaye. conversation...

Jason and Matt listen to the audio book version of the tour diary of Henry Rollins when he was in Black Flag in the mid 80's. It's all the shittiness of touring without the physical pain and suffering of actually being in a band. We don't know too much about the great Black Flag and are torn about Mr. Rollins but he's been an important symbol in hardcore that deserves respect and Get in the Van is the proof. As a member of seminal hardcore punk bands The Teen Idles, Minor Threat and Fugazi, and a founder of the pioneering indie label, Dischord Records, Ian MacKaye started a musical movement out of Washington, D.C. in the early 80s that continues to ignite and inspire bands all over the world. With Dischord as its engine, the D.C. hardcore and post-hardcore punk scene generated bands like Rites of Spring, Nation of Ulysses, Jawbox, Shudder to Think, Fugazi, Q and Not You, Faraquet and Beauty Pill....

The epic story of a singular career that includes Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Them Crooked Vultures. Based on ten years of original, exclusive interviews with the man himself and conversations with a legion of musical associates like Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, DC punk legend Ian MacKaye, and Nevermind producer Butch Vig, this is Grohls story. He speaks candidly and honestly about Kurt Cobain, the arguments that almost tore Nirvana apart, the feuds that...

In our attempt to cover the entire Fugazi discography we listen to their first two records, 13 Songs (which Matt will point out is not a real album) and Repeater with our friend Mike who has loved Fugazi since picking these up on cassette. We talk about the early years of the band, their politics and band practices and how we each discovered them while listening through each song on both records. Recorded in a marathon session one long afternoon in Brooklyn this is the beginning of a three part...

Ian Mackaye elaborates on Fugazi's reasoning on making "unconventional" decisions such as charging $5 to see them while still playing at recognized venues such as Metropolis. He goes over the history of the band's line, music, and his original hopes for the band. The classic Mackay interview ends with a critique on the music reviewers and explains his emotional response to the "lazy" journalism music writers seem to indulge in.

The last issue of Still Thinking to come out although there was a fourth issue that they were hoping to publish. Looks like this came out after the " Progress?! " compilation written about elsewhere on the blog. Still Thinking interviewed C.O.C. in their first issue and the familiarity with them helps the interviewer cut straight to the chase with getting to label mismanagement from the outset. They talk about political action and peace and boxer shorts...... It is a pretty good...
